Project 5_Isabel Bernal copy.png

How I Created "What's In A Name?"

Steps It Took To Create This Project In Photoshop:

1. Created A New File and Flipped The Paper Horizontally

(11 Inch. Length, 8.5 Inch. Width).

2. Named The File Accordingly.

3. Set Background To Transparent.
4. Created The File.

5. Used Text Tool And Typed Last Name.
6. Enlarged The Text To Fit Screen And Center It.
7. Collected 20 Images From The Internet And My Photo Library.

8. Added Images Into A Folder (While Saving/Downloading Them), And Dragged Them Into The Program (Photoshop).

9. Arranged Each photo On Top Of The Text; Using The Free Transform Tool, And Grabbing/Move Tool.
10. Right-clicked The Image In The Layers Panel And Selected “Clipping Mask”.
11. Then I Duplicated The Layers I Wanted To Pop Out Of The Letters And Moved Them Above All The Layers.
12. Used The Quick Selection Tool To Remove The Background From The Images I Wanted To Pop Out.

13. Added A Layer Mask To Have The Image Pop Out.

14. Otherwise I Erased Anything That Wasn't Handled By The Selection Tool To Make Images Fit Nicer.

15. Repeated Steps 11-14 To Create 5 Pop-Outs.

16. Clicked On The FX Button At The Bottom Of The Layer Window.

16.5 Added A Drop Shadow Effect (Under The Text).

16. Clicked File, And Saved A Copy Of The Project As A PNG.

What Are Clipping Masks? How Do They Differ From Just Using The Eraser Tool In Photoshop? How Might You Use Them In The Future To Create More Projects In Photoshop?

Clipping Masks Are A Way To Get Images Within The Boundaries Of An Object, Like Text Or A Filled In Circle. Unlike The Eraser Tool, You Can Still Move Anything You Clip Within The Object. If You Used The Eraser Tool, It'd Be Hard To Adjust It After Making Decisions As Anything You Erased Is Gone. I May Use Clipping Masks In Future Photoshop Projects To Make Adding Images Into An Object And Within Its Boundaries Easier.

What Was Successful In Your Project? What Was Unsuccessful And What Would You Do Differently Next Time To Solve This Problem?

I Think Everything Was "Successful" In My Project. Considering Unsuccessful As Things I Can Improve On, I'd Say The Images I Used, And Their Placement. To Elaborate, I Could Have Used More Culturally Representing Images. I Also Could Have Organized The Images To Be A Little More Relevant To Each Other, And I Could've Executed The Pop-Outs A Little Differently. To Solve The Issue, I'll Try To Take/Put More Time Into The/My Project.

Based On The Learning Target, "Create A Multimedia Collage Of Personal Interests, Identity, And Culture In Photoshop That Demonstrates Knowledge Of Media And Technology Skills By Utilizing Clipping Masks And Layer Masks".  What Level Of Mastery Does Your Project Demonstrate (Exceeds, Meets, Needs Work, Minimal Understanding)? Why Do You Think? Make Sure To Provide Specific Evidence.

I Believe My Project Demonstrates Exceeding The Criteria/Understanding. This Is Because I Used Over 15 Images, Made/Added More Than 3 Pop-Outs, And Added Elements To The Website That Sort Of Add To The Project.
